Auditing

The basis for the certification is the International Code of Conduct for the production of cut flowers. For a practical interpretation of the code, a set of guidelines is designed.

Certification

The NBB has chosen to work together with Fair Flowers Fair Plants (FFP) which is a new initiative to stimulate the production and sales of flowers and plants cultivated in a sustainable manner. In FFP website www.fairflowersfairplants.com the producer can find an updated list with the certification organisations complying with the ICC.

Country specific

In every country the implementation of the ICC and guidelines is discussed through a multistakeholder dialogue.

There should be a complaint procedure for third parties about the certification and (non-)compliance of flower growers.

The procedure of certification, step-by-step

  1. The flower grower has to keep record of agro-chemicals, water use, waste, energy, fertilizers, etc.
  2. The flower grower allows the free access of trade unions and NGOs on the farm
  3. A regular on-site audit or verification of the performance on environmental issues and social issues (as checking books, accounts, contracts, salary slips and discussions with trade unions and NGOs) is done by a accredited certification body.
  4. During this audit, trade union and NGO representatives are present as observers.
  5. If compliance with the ICC is fulfilled according to the certification body and the observers, the flowers of this grower can be sold with the Fair Flowers Fair Plants label.
  6. The ICC certified flower farms are being published on the website of Fair Flowers Fair Plants: www.fairflowersfairplants.com
